Chienes is a pleasant holiday village, peacefully set in green Val Pusteria and with many sights you should not miss. Enjoy following in the footsteps of those in ancient times who have discovered the beauties of our region. The Casteldarne milestone bears witness to the presence of the Romans. Castello di Casteldarne, the ancestral seat of the Counts of Casteldarne, dates back to the 12th century. Today it is a beautiful Baroque castle. Highly recommended from an art-historic point of view, are the parish churches of St Peter and St Paul in Chienes, St Martin in Corti, the priory church in Casteldarne and Castello di Schöneck, the castle where the last of the minstrels, Oswald von Wolkenstein, is said to have been born.

Valle Tures/Aurina: a region with especially beautiful mountains

Ötzi Museum

Ötzi, the world-famous Man from the ice, is situated in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano. The 5,000 years old mummy is one of the oldest mummies worldwide.

The Swiss pine oil distillery and the herb garden

Between Chienes and Issengo you can watch special craftspeople at their daily work. Since 1912 the Swiss pine oil distillery has been producing valuable essential oils, creams and herbal products from mountain pines growing wild in high Alpine locations. The herb garden is home to fine rare organic kitchen and medicinal plants. The herbal extracts and essential ingredients in the essential oils, creams and ointments have a soothing effect on body and soul.
